Performance Reports Are Now Fresher – Search Console Update

It has always been annoying to me that I had to wait at least 3 days to get the search performance data on the search console. Waiting till Wednesday to get Weekend data sure is irritating and if you are anything like me – especially impatient – I am sure you can relate. User have been requesting Google to change this for a long time now and finally Google has taken the user request into account.

Now, you can see the search performance data which is just a day old. You can check out weekend’s data on Monday itself. In the webmaster’s blog, they mentioned and I quote

With the new fresh data, users can now see data as recent as less than a day old – a significant improvement compared to the previous few days.

When I last checked, Google was showing updated data from nine hours ago. This indeed is a significant improvement, even though I sometimes wonder if it’s possible for Google to give out this data in real time. I know, It’s a bit ambitious and almost impossible but, well, there are no bounds to what you can wish for right.

How To Check The Last Updated Time?

Login to search console, click on performance to load the performance report and you can see “Last Updated _ Hours Ago” on the top right corner, beside the date and search type. Check out this screenshot and you’ll know exactly where to check.

What Does This Means For Us?

There might be a lot but on top of my head, It’s going to help you analyse and monitor your keywords, performances & traffic better. This might come in handy especially when you have just fixed something on your website or have made some changes on it and you want to check the impact of it. You no more have to wait 3 days to check the impact.

Is There A Catch To All of This?

There might actually be one. Google says that they will update the fresh data with the final data after a few days. This means that most recent data you are seeing on the report might not actually be final. There are chances that the initial numbers & final numbers might differ. So, while you are looking at the performance report, you might want to keep this in mind.

Also, The Search Analytics API as well as Discover reports are not going to be benefited this particular update. You won’t be able to see any fresh data on any of these. There might be a possibility of this changing soon, but for now, you have to make good with whatever data you get.

Other Updates

That’s not all that has been updated on the search Console. There’s more.

The performance report has been now updated to show the time zone clearly. I don’t think there is a need for an explanation of uses of this update. Even the export option has got an update. You will now be able to export the data based on the time frame you choose. Check out this below screenshot to know how to do that.

Google has just made the monitoring & analysis part of the SEO a bit easier with all of these updates. How do you think these updates on Search Console are going to benefit you. Let me know in the comments below.
