The connection does not make X Ads, AppsFlyer and SKAN dashboards use the same denominator, and it does not prove incremental lift. Set the partner, privacy and lookback choices deliberately, then reconcile the same date range, event definition and attribution window before changing a budget.

This guide reflects the current AppsFlyer setup documentation, which was updated on September 7, 2026. It is an implementation and reporting guide for app advertisers. No advertiser account or live campaign was connected while preparing it, so the worked numbers below are explicitly illustrative.

What changed, and what did not

AppsFlyer’s X Ads transition to Advanced SRN attribution was documented before September 2026, so this is an implementation guide rather than a new-launch announcement. The AppsFlyer product page provides historical product context; the current setup page is the useful source for today’s controls and limits.

The change matters because the integration can use deterministic matching when an advertising identifier is available and privacy-preserving probabilistic modelling when it is not. It does not turn attributed conversions into causal evidence. Attribution answers which eligible source received credit under a defined rule; postbacks describe which events AppsFlyer sends to a partner; incrementality asks what additional outcome the advertising caused compared with a valid counterfactual.

X’s launch material describes the vendor’s intended benefits and reported outcomes. Treat those statements as product context. Use AppsFlyer’s current configuration and data documentation for the operational boundaries.

Before you connect X Ads to AppsFlyer

Have an X Ads payment method and an X Ads user with Account Administrator access available for authorization.

Use the same app, AppsFlyer account and X Ads account scope when you compare results. Record the app ID, X Ads account IDs, currency, timezone and reporting window.

Confirm that the app SDK, first-open event and downstream events such as purchase are defined consistently. A connected partner cannot repair an event that is missing, duplicated or named differently across systems.

Decide whether the decision is about installs, re-engagement, post-install events, cost efficiency or causal lift. Those are separate reporting questions.

AppsFlyer says the user authorizing the connection needs X Ads Account Administrator permission. The integration can connect up to 200 ad accounts. Keep an ownership record for each selected account so a later reconciliation does not accidentally combine separate brands or agencies.

Setup checklist

In X Ads, use an Advanced campaign and choose an app-focused objective such as App Installs or App Re-engagement. Confirm that the campaign is promoting the same app configured in AppsFlyer.

In AppsFlyer, open Collaboration, then Active Integrations, and select X Ads.

Accept the applicable media access and collaboration terms, then activate the partner integration.

Authorize the connection with the X Ads administrator account and select the intended X Ads accounts.

Save the configuration and record the activation date, account IDs and selected app. Run a controlled QA check before using the connection to make a budget decision.

X Ads is a self-reporting network, so this setup does not use an AppsFlyer attribution link or OneLink link for the network. The network and AppsFlyer exchange the relevant measurement signals through the SRN integration.

Choose privacy, windows and event scope deliberately

Advanced Privacy is an iOS-only setting in the current setup flow and is on by default for activation. When it is enabled, the integration shares aggregated and anonymous information rather than engagement identifiers, hashed device identifiers, IP addresses or user-agent details. AppsFlyer’s current setup documentation notes, according to X Ads, that this can lead to under-reporting and may limit campaign optimization in X Ads. Do not interpret a lower visible count by itself as proof that the campaign stopped working.

AppsFlyer’s current recommendations are a 14-day click-through lookback window and a 1-day view-through lookback window. The available ranges are broader for clicks and shorter for views. Use the same windows in every comparison and document any change: changing a window changes attribution eligibility and makes periods using different rules harder to compare.

Keep reinstall and re-engagement separate. A reinstall is a user returning after the app was previously uninstalled; re-engagement is a returning user who opens or uses the app again after an eligible advertising interaction. Retargeting and re-engagement settings affect the denominator, so do not combine them with new-user installs without labeling the outcome.

Event postbacks are another independent choice. Depending on the configuration, AppsFlyer can send only partner-attributed events or events from all media sources, including organic. Event values can be sent with revenue, without revenue or not at all. For agency-attributed postbacks, the current integration documentation requires selecting all media, including organic. Write down which mode is active before comparing an X Ads event count with an AppsFlyer export.

Attribution, postbacks and incrementality answer different questions

Attribution assigns an install or re-engagement to a media source according to the configured matching method and lookback window. Postbacks send selected conversion events or values to X so the partner can report or optimize against them. Incrementality estimates the additional outcome caused by advertising, which needs a defensible control, holdout, geo test or another causal design.

A strong attributed ROAS can coexist with low or unproven incremental lift. Conversely, a privacy-limited attributed view can understate the total effect. For the broader measurement decision, use the attribution, incrementality and MMM framework alongside the network-level setup.

Advanced SRN fields and reporting surfaces

The current AppsFlyer setup table maps the integration’s Advanced SRN parameters to fields such as the X Ads media source, campaign name and ID, ad set name and ID, ad name and ad ID or Tweet ID. The documentation also describes base-10 campaign and ad set IDs and lists match types such as
id_matching
and
probabilistic
in that configuration view.

The separate conversion-data payload documentation shows a different surface: its X Ads payload example reports
media_source
as
Twitter
and
match_type
as
srn
. This is a documentation and surface boundary, not a reason to invent a more specific value. Validate the actual export, API or raw-data surface you use and preserve the field name and value exactly in your data dictionary.

Reporting question

What to check

Which partner received credit?

AppsFlyer media source, campaign and ad identifiers, matching method and lookback window.

What can X optimize against?

Postback event scope, event values, revenue setting and the X Ads account receiving the data.

Why do two exports differ?

API latency, timezone, attribution windows, privacy modelling, event definitions and denominator.

Do not expect every reporting surface to expose the same fields at the same time. AppsFlyer notes that conversion-data surfaces can have different latency and field availability. X Ads pre-roll attribution is unsupported, and an ad name can appear as
Untitled
when the source does not provide one.

Illustrative reconciliation example

The following numbers are a worked example only. Assume the 32 purchasers are distinct users from the same 80 AppsFlyer-attributed installs, and that the $2,400 revenue is from that same cohort and observation window. They do not represent a tested advertiser setup or a reported X Ads result.

Input

Illustrative value

X Ads reported spend

$1,200

X Ads dashboard installs

100

AppsFlyer X-attributed installs

80

AppsFlyer X-attributed distinct purchasers from the same 80-user cohort

32

AppsFlyer X-attributed revenue from that cohort and window

$2,400

Using those inputs:

X dashboard CPI = $1,200 ÷ 100 = $12.00.

AppsFlyer X-attributed CPI = $1,200 ÷ 80 = $15.00.

AppsFlyer X-attributed ROAS = $2,400 ÷ $1,200 = 2.0x (200%).

X-attributed distinct purchaser rate = 32 ÷ 80 = 40%.

The $12 versus $15 CPI difference is a reconciliation prompt, not automatic tracking failure. First compare the exact date range, timezone, click and view windows, consent or modelled attribution, X account scope, install and purchase definitions, currency and denominator. Then check whether X is showing a platform-reported install while AppsFlyer is showing an attributed install under its own rules. Do not use the arithmetic above to claim causal lift.

Cost, SKAN and web-to-app boundaries

AppsFlyer’s current documentation places X Ads cost data behind ROI360. Ad revenue is unavailable in the documented integration. SKAN-only cost data is unavailable to agencies, and cost setup is an advertiser responsibility. Confirm the commercial plan and ownership before promising a cost report.

SKAN is a separate privacy-preserving reporting path with its own API and campaign or ad set fields. It should be compared with the same time boundary and postback definition rather than merged casually with user-level or modelled attribution. Non-app campaign web-to-app measurement is currently documented as Android-only, so do not promise the same W2A flow for iOS.

QA before changing budgets

Confirm the connected app, X Ads account IDs, AppsFlyer app ID, currency and timezone.

Capture the active Advanced Privacy state and click-through and view-through windows.

Run a controlled install or re-engagement test and verify the first launch and selected downstream event.

Compare partner-only and all-media event scope before interpreting postback totals.

Export the same date range from X Ads, AppsFlyer and SKAN where applicable. Keep raw and aggregated views separate.

Record the decision rule for the next budget change. An attributed dashboard comparison alone is not an incrementality test.

Where this fits in a broader measurement stack

The Snapchat Unified Attribution guide covers a separate network’s AppsFlyer and Adjust setup and QA job. Use that guide for Snapchat-specific configuration, and use this page for X Ads-specific Advanced SRN choices, iOS privacy boundaries and reconciliation questions. Keep the event, window and denominator definitions consistent when you compare the networks.

Sources checked: AppsFlyer X Ads integration setup, AppsFlyer X Ads FAQ and discrepancies, AppsFlyer conversion data payloads, and AppsFlyer’s Advanced SRN product history.

Set up X Ads with AppsFlyer, understand iOS attribution, and reconcile installs, events, cost and SKAN before changing budgets.

[177,221
438,448,439,235
post-2977","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-digital-marketing","category-marketing-strategy","tag-conversion-tracking","tag-marketing-measurement","tag-paid-media","tag-ppc","has-featured-image
["GET
